A sterling silver and ivorine cocktail recipe menu. This stunning Art Deco piece is the perfect addition to any home or professional bar. The nob on the side of the piece turns each separate hand coloured ivorine (a bakelite composite style material used to look like ivory) page showing classic, and more adventurous cocktail recipes detailed!
The design is clean and simple with finial top detail widening out to a base in a classic, stepped Art Deco style design, with no adornment, making the piece a good fit for even the most classic of homes. We have had a few of these over the years. Very few in sterling, none up until this point English and sterling. It was made in, Birmingham, England in 1934, so prime Art Deco. It was made by the silversmiths Charles S Green & Co Ltd.
The piece is in excellent original condition. However, there are some recipe pages missing, but twenty still present. Some iconic cocktails from the period such as the 'silver streak' and the 'London' not heard of much today. The base is solid painted wood, and in excellent condition. To say this is a rare piece of cocktail history would be to underestimate it. Not only is it rare, these are real party pieces. We sold a European sterling version in our Sotheby's Prohibition sale in 2021 for over $8000!
