Description
The term ‘Sultanabad' is used to distinguish the oldest and highest-quality of the Mahal style carpets. These carpets were produced in the area around the Iranian city of Arak, which has a history of rug weaving dating back to the mid-17th Century. Sultanabad mahals, also called Ziegler mahals, were named after a Manchester-based British firm which supervised the production of high-quality exports to the west, beginning in 1883. Like most mahal rugs, Sultanabad rugs often feature bold, floral designs with all-over fields or medallions with vine scrolls and palmettes. Patter, color variation, and signs of wear
with vintage items is normal. If you have specific questions about wear or colors, email [email protected] or call us to discuss this rug in more detail.
We recommend using rug pads to extend the life of all Passerine rugs. Add a custom-sized rug pad to your order using order add-on the drop down above.
